NEW SITE PLAN AND NEW ADU
For a 1910 farmhouse with a 7,500 s.f. lot, we designed a site plan to enhance outdoor living spaces and locate an ADU for income. The new structure for the ADU is to serve as a home office prior to the renting of the ADU.
A reflection pond mediates the space between a new covered deck adjacent to the existing house and a new ADU above a new garage. The pond simultaneously provides privacy and physical separation and a shared visual amenity for the two residences.
Low cost gabion walls (non-mortared stones in a wire framework) with plants make a graceful transition from the deck to finish grade without guardrails and handrails. Perimeter gabion walls comprise raised planting beds for a bamboo privacy screen and replacement planting area for the existing vegetable garden. Concrete planks with grass joints make a driving surface that is interwoven into the site’ s garden environment
The ADU’s wall opening’s covered with slanted wooden louvers allow glimpses to the pond and garden while preserving the primary dwelling’s sense of privacy. Large windows are located on the north and south elevations for expansive views to the mature trees of the adjacent properties
